2. Flexible tripods with a height of 25 cm are tripods for phones and small cameras. They have a weight capacity of 1 kg and legs long enough to securely cling to trees and large diameter pipes.
3. Flexible tripods with a height of 28 cm are universal tripods for all types of devices. They have a large withstandable weight, often a fully rotating head and long legs, which will give you complete freedom in shooting.

Tripod weight capacity

The weight that a tripod can withstand determines what devices it can be used with. The more weight a tripod can withstand, the more versatile it is. A high weight capacity means not only that the tripod can be used with all devices from a smartphone to a DSLR, but also that small devices like a phone and an action camera will stand/stay stable on any surface in any weather conditions (the wind won't blow them away).

There are 3 main categories of weight capacity for flexible tripods:

1. Withstands weight up to 300 grams. Usually these are small 17 cm tripods. Suitable for use with phones and action cameras.
2. Withstandable weight up to 1 kg. Ideal for smartphones, action cameras and small cameras due to the difference in withstandable weight (the greater the difference between the weight of the device and the withstandable weight of the flexible tripod, the more stable it will stand on any surface)
3. Withstandable weight from 2 to 5 kg. These are universal flexible tripods that can be freely used with smartphones and action cameras, as well as with heavy cameras.

Tripod head

1. The tripod head can be fully rotatable (360 degrees horizontally and 90 degrees vertically), or the head rotation angles can be limited.
2. The tripod head can be with a locking mechanism for the selected position or without the ability to securely fix the position of the head.
3. The head of a flexible tripod may be removable (for quick access to the device) or may not have this function.
4. The removable head can be with a safety catch (so that the removable platform does not detach from the head at the most inopportune moment) or without a safety catch.
5. The head may have a bubble level (for ideal horizontal positioning of the camera) or without it.

So the ideal tripod head is:

• fully rotating head with the ability to lock the selected position;
• with removable platform and safety catch;
• with a bubble level.

Tripod leg design and material/build quality

Flexible tripod legs come in wire or articulated.

Big plus articulated legs is high maintainability. Each leg of the hinged flexible tripod consists of independent sections, and even if one of the sections breaks over time, it can be easily removed at home. One leg of the tripod will become lower, but the tripod will still remain functional. The downside of hinged legs is that over time, the tripod leg sections can become loose.

A big plus wire legs is high flexibility and 100% rubberized leg coating, which provides very good adhesion to surfaces. The main rule for using a flexible wire tripod is not to bend it at the junction of the leg and the tripod head (since this is the weakest point structurally). If you follow this simple rule, the flexible tripod will serve you for many years.

The quality of flexible wire tripods also varies. The 17 cm and younger 25 cm models have wire and rubberized feet that are not as wear-resistant as the older 25 cm and 28 cm flexible tripods. So if durability is a priority, we recommend paying attention to the 28 cm and older 25 cm tripod models.

Telescopic tripods for cameras and tabletop tripods for phones
